THE KYRGYZ REPUBLIC
 
The geographical position: The Kyrgyz Republic is located in the north-eastern part of Central Asia.
      
The area: 199,900 square meters.  Almost 90% of the territory is located at the altitude of over 1,500 meters above the sea level.
      
The population: 5,300,000 residents.
      
The capital: Bishkek (in excess of 800,000 residents).
      
The administrative territorial division: 7
regions.
      
The official language:
The Kyrgyz language.  In May 2000, the Russian language obtained the status of an official language; in December 2001, the law was passed to specify the status of the Russian language in the Constitution.
      
The National Holiday: The Day of State Independence (August 31).
      
The State Structure: The Kyrgyz Republic is a sovereign, unitary, democratic and law-based secular state. The state is headed by President K. S. Bakiyev (in 2005, he was elected for a five years’ term). 
      
The Legislative Authority: The unicameral parliament (named Zhogorku Kenesh and chaired by A.S. Tagayev). 
      
The Government: The supreme executive body (Prime Minister I.V. Choudinov).
      
Political Parties: The Kyrgyz Republic has about 100 parties, its major parties include Ak-Zhol (71 of 90 parliament seats), Ar-Namys, Asaba, the Party of Kyrgyzstan Communists, Social democratic party, etc.
      
The National Economy: The Kyrgyz republic is an agricultural and industrial country.  About 42% of the GDP is generated by the agricultural sector, and in excess of 50% of the able-bodied population is employed within the agricultural sector (animal breeding, tobacco, vegetables, gardening, apiculture, technical crops).
      
The Industry: The leading branches of industry include hydropower engineering, gold, mercury, stibium, rare metals mining, machine building, consumer industry and food processing.
      
In 2007, the GDB reached approx. USD 3,000,000,000.

Export and Import Operations: The foreign trade turnover reached USD 3,470,000 in 2007 (the export operations value is USD 1,017,300, the import operations value is USD 2,452,700.)

Russia/Kyrgyz Republic  Relationship   
 

Diplomatic relations were established between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan on March 20, 1992.  Their legal base includes in excess of 200 treaties and agreements that govern specific issues of bilateral interactions.  On June 10, 1992, the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Aid was executed between Russia and Kyrgyzya; in 2000, the Declaration of Eternal Friendship and Partnership between Russia and the Kyrgyz Republic was also executed.
